SUMMARY:Click It\, Sketch It: An Adventure with Migratory Birds 2020 Edition
DESCRIPTION:“Click It\, Sketch It: An Adventure with Migratory Birds 2020 Edition”\nFeaturing A Storytelling Session for Children\n \nIntroduction\nWorld Migratory Bird Day 2020 aims to raise awareness on the importance of ecological connectivity for migratory birds and complement the efforts of Convention on Migratory Species to promote ecological connectivity and functionality\, international cooperation and the conservation of migratory species within the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. \nIn line with this year’s theme for World Migratory Bird Day (Birds Connect Our World) and the EAAFP theme for 2019-2020 (Flyways – Connecting People and Migratory Waterbirds)\, the SCPW will again conduct the “Click It\, Sketch It” activity  with three sessions: (1) storytelling session for children\, (2) sketching of migratory birds by artists\, and (3) bird and nature photography. \nThe SCPW would like to invite the ASEAN Centre on Biodiversity to be a partner in the storytelling activity.  The storytelling activity is designed for grade schoolers that will revolve around the importance of migratory birds\, the threats to their very existence and instill in their young minds that people can do something to help protect wildlife and their habitats.  Due to the current health risk\, the session will be conducted via online platform. \n  \n\nThe event will be livestreamed in our YouTube\, Facebook\, and LinkedIn pages.

DESCRIPTION:In line with this year’s celebration of World Wetlands Day and consistent with the theme “Wetlands and Biodiversity”\, the Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands\, Inc (SCPW) in partnership with the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity and the Pampanga State Agricultural Univeristy (PSAU) will conduct a learning event dubbed as “Wetlands and Agricultural Biodiversity” at the PSAU Campus in Magalang\, Pampanga on 06 February 2020. Senator Cynthia Villar\, Chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources as well as the Committee on Agriculture will deliver the Keynote Address at this gathering. \nThe event is aimed to instill awareness among key stakeholders including farmers and other members of the community\, on the importance of the various ecosystem services provided by wetlands and its biodiversity. It will also mobilize citizen science through Wetlands Bioblitz using the toolkit that the SCPW developed. Other activities during the afternoon field exposure at the Paligui Wetlands are wetland walk\, carabao cart ride\, and birdwatching activity where they will experience and learn about this particular ecosystem and appreciate nature amidst a farm setting. The event will be highlighted by the launch of a simple design of the Paligui Wetland Centre and a briefing on the crowd funding activity for the construction of the said community\nwetland education centre. \nThe learning event will benefit from experts and practitioners in the field of biodiversity and wetlands. Dr. Theresa Mundita S. Lim\, Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity will talk about the ACB’s projects and activities particularly dealing with agricultural biodiversity while Dr. Simplicia A. Pasicolan will discuss biodiversity in the Candaba Wetlands. This year’s theme “Wetlands and Biodiversity” and Ramsar Convention will be explained by Ms. Amy Lecciones. Dr. Honorio M. Soriano\, Jr.\, President of Pampanga State Agricultural University\, will host the morning session of the learning event while Mr. Virgilio Manalili\, Barangay Chairperson of Barangay Paligui\, Candaba\, Pampanga and Mr. Gaudencio de Leon\, President of Macagatal\nIrrigators Association will host the field exposure activity. \nThe Wetlands Bioblitz activity will be led by Prof. Ivy Amor F. SUMMARY:Round Table Discussion on The Philippines Water Sector: Gaps and Opportunities
DESCRIPTION:In line with the observance of World Water Day (WWD) which is celebrated on the 22nd of March each year\, the Department for International Trade of the British Embassy in partnership with the Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands\, Inc. is conducting a Round Table Discussion (RTD) on “The Philippines Water Sector: Gaps and Opportunities” on 20 March 2019 at the Joy Nostalg Hotel Manila on ADB Ave.\, Ortigas Center\, Pasig City. \nBThis multi-stakeholder dialogue aims to enhance relationships among key Philippine oversight agencies on water\, private sector\, civil society organisations\, academe\, development partners\, and water-end users by sharing what each one is currently doing and in the process identify areas of opportunities for fruitful collaboration. \nThe theme for this year’s WWD is “Leaving no one behind”\, highlighting the central promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that\, as sustainable development progresses\, everyone must benefit. SDG 6 includes a target to ensure availability and sustainable management of water for all by 2030 and this means leaving no one behind. To achieve this target\, there is a need for a concerted effort among the actors in the water sector to pursue initiatives that will deliver this result.

SUMMARY:WWD 2019 Media Wetland Exposure Activity at Candaba Wetland
DESCRIPTION:World Wetlands Day is celebrated every February 2 of each year. It commemorates the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands in the Iranian city of Ramsar in 1971. It is also declared by the Philippine government in 1999 as National Wetlands Day by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 74.\nFor this year\, the celebration will focus on the importance of wetlands with the theme\, “Wetlands and Climate Change.”  The frequency of disasters worldwide has more than doubled in just 35 years\, and 90% of these disasters are water-related. Wetlands play a significant role in stabilizing GHG emissions and blunting the impacts of climate change.\n\nThis year\, the WWD will be celebrated at the Candaba Wetlands\, a complex of freshwater ponds\, swamps and marshes with surrounding areas of seasonally flooded grassland and arable land on a vast alluvial plain. The Candaba Wetlands is an extremely important staging and wintering area for migratory birds\, from October up to April of every year\, as it regularly supports between 5\,000 and 10\,000 birds. It is a significant part of the East Asia-Australasian Migratory Flyway. It also forms a critical part of the Pampanga River Basin for a floodwater management strategy for disaster mitigation\, conservation and water supply needs.\n\nThe DENR – Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) along with the Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands (SCPW) and DENR Region 3 will spearhead the conduct of a two-day Media Wetland Exposure Activity on February 1-2\, 2019 for members of various media organizations and select bloggers at the Candaba Wetlands\, located in Barangay Paligui\, Candaba\, Pampanga. There will be a briefing on the Candaba Wetlands\, birding activities\, and interaction with the local community.\n\nWWD 2019 Media Wetland Exposure Activity Program

SUMMARY:WWD 2019 Media Wetland Exposure Day One: Lecture and Briefing
DESCRIPTION:We are not powerless against climate change. “Wetlands and Climate Change”\, theme of World Wetlands Day 2019 shall be the highlight of Communication\, Education\, and Public Awareness (CEPA) efforts for the 1-2 February 2019 celebration. \nThe WWD2019 event will be held at the Candaba Wetlands\, Brgy.
