3rd CLEAR Youth Network Congress

In line with the Living Lakes 10th year Anniversary theme, this year’s theme for the 3rd CLEAR Youth Network Congress is “Wetlands and Culture”.  Wetlands are a storehouse of cultural heritage which takes many forms, from human-made physical structures and artifacts, palaeontological records in sediments and peat, and traditional water and land-use management practices, to places of religious and mythological significance and the intangible ‘sense of place’ felt by many for these wild and often mysterious sites and their wildlife.   more on the CLEAR Youth Network >>

This year’s theme pays tribute to humanity and its long time relationship with wetland ecosystems. To illustrate this relationship and communicate its importance, the Congress revolves around the following sub-themes:

  • the history of wetlands and people
  • wetlands as an early source of food and raw materials
  • working in wetlands – the tools of the trade
  • cultural heritage – a management challenge
  • wetlands – a cultural landscape
  • wetlands – a cultural landscape for learning and leisure
  • wetlands and spiritual life
  • wetlands – an inspiration in art, music, literature and folklore

The Congress was held on 26-27 July 2008 at Camp Allen Development and Training Center in Santa Cruz, Laguna. It was attended by sixty-six (66) youth from various lakeshore cities and municipalities of Laguna de Bay.
